[edit] About UBC
UBC is one of the world's great public universities. Newsweek magazine ranked UBC 27th in 2006; UBC was ranked 38th in the Times Higher Education Supplement in 2005; and for the past five years UBC has been among the top 40 institutes in the world as ranked by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. For complete details, visit UBC Ranks in Global Top 40.
UBC's major campus is situated in Vancouver, on Canada's West Coast. Vancouver is widely considered one of the most beautiful cities in North America; it is located on the edge of the Pacific Ocean and is surrounded by mountains.
The densely populated Greater Vancouver region (which includes neighbouring municipalities) is over 2.2 million, just over half the population of the province of British Columbia.
[edit] The 4 UBC Campuses
The main UBC Vancouver campus lies about 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver on the Point Grey peninsula. The 402 hectare campus contains world-class attractions such as the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and the Musuem of Anthropology. The campus is surrounded by 763 hectares of forested parkland.
The UBC Okanagan campus is located 20 minutes north of downtown Kelowna, in the beautiful Okanagan region of BC's interior. The 260 acre campus allows for room to grow: from 0.5 million square feet of building space at present, to 1.5 million by 2010.
UBC Robson Square is located in downtown Vancouver, on Robson Square Street between Hornby and Howe. Here in the heart of the city, UBC offers humanities courses, technology and management programs, and live performances and events.
The Great Northern Way campus occupies 6.6 hectares located at the False Creek flats in East Vancouver. UBC jointly occupies the campus with SFU, BCIT, and the Emily Carr Institute: it is intended to provide an integrated environment with training and education programs offered by each partner institution. Campus construction plans are currently being developed.
